Running Into the Great Oak Creek Outdoors…

Check out this place just on the other side of Oak Creek for quick peace and quiet while also getting a great workout in.

Okay, so maybe it was just on the other side of Oak Creek in Franklin, but if you haven’t had a chance yet (I know, the weather’s been truly “Wisconsin”… rain/cold one day, 60s the next) to run or walk the path around the Franklin Woods Nature Center off of 35th and Puetz  you have to make a date to do so.

The quaint park has something for everyone: playground for kids, paved path for roller bladers, wooded trail for the outdoors-lovers and the ability to run or walk. Forgot the doggie bag for your four-legged friend? No worries, there are bags and disposable stations available, a HUGE PLUS for dog lovers.

Plus, the paved path is equivalent to a lap around a high school track. Doing the trail through the woods and back adds on an extra mile or so (approximately half mile from end to end).

It’s a nice, quick getaway – even for 30-45 minutes – from the daily Oak Creek bustle (construction anyone?) to grab a little peace and quiet in a country-like wooded setting. The setting is so pristine and calming that you’ll forget you’re even exercising.

What is your favorite outside Oak Creek/south side spot or quick exercise get away?
