Alleged Drunken Driver Crashes At College Ave. Roundabout

37-year-old man was arrested for drunken driving in Cudahy after striking a sign on College Avenue in Oak Creek.

A man allegedly driving drunk apparently couldn't handle the new roundabout on College Avenue.

An Oak Creek police officer discovered what looked like fresh skid marks, damage to a sign and vehicle debris about 1:30 a.m. Friday, according to an report.

Among the debris: the vehicle's license plate.

Police found the plate belonged to a 37-year-old Cudahy man and called the Cudahy Police Department, which said it had the man already in custody.

The man admitted to drinking prior to driving and told police he did not realize he hit anything, according to the police report. Cudahy police said his preliminary blood-alcohol content was .27, more than three times the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin. He was arrested on drunken driving and hit-and-run charges.

i think they are dumb in the first place but why they ever put a roundabout there is beyond me..... if you are heading east on college, it's right before an intersection.

They put it in the plans for College Ave when they thought the mail processing center was going to go in at that corner...now that those plans are dead, it's sort of a Roundabout to Nowhere.

@Mark thanks for the explaination.... shame they didn't change the plans because they new that processing plant wasnt going to be built by the time the contruction started.

Yeah there was discussion on whether to keep the roundabout in, and my understanding is they did so expecting that some development would go in there eventually. They did, however, ax the roundabout that was planned for Pennsylvania in that same area.

Mark, they are the dumbest this I have ever seen. Here they do an awesome job on the freeway construction plans, only to screw everything up with thos accident waiting to happen roundabouts. I have seen more almost accidents than before they put those in. And to top that off, we have been at some where when you get to them, your not even sure where to turn to continue on. When they were at the State Fair showing how they work, I told them than they get on "F" in my book. So many people agreed with me there. But as usual they shut there ears and said its something to GET USED TO.

Try hauling a 16' landscape trailer through those round abouts on a regular basis and tell me how safe they are! They were designed for vehicles only withour regard for large trucks/trailers
