Alleged Drunken Driver Crashes Into Roundabout

An 18-year-old woman caused damage to her vehicle and the College Avenue roundabout when she allegedly drove drunk and crashed into curbs and signs Friday night.

A failure to negotiate the College Avenue roundabout led to the arrest of another alleged drunken driver Friday night.

An 18-year-old woman was eastbound on E. College Avenue when she entered the roundabout, just west of Pennsylvania Avenue, about 11:25 p.m. She then struck a curb, a one way/yield sign in the center median, a second curb and another one-way sign, according to a police report.

The vehicle also lost a front tire, which was found at Pennsylvania and College.

Cudahy police pulled the woman over near Pennsylvania and Layton avenues and arrested her for drunken driving.

Her car had severe damage to its front end and was towed.

I'm just surprised that there aren't more accidents like this in that roundabout

Drunk or sober, I think that round about is very confusing and dangerous. Thankfully, she did not hurt anyone else or herself by her bad judgment of drinking and driving.

Isn't this a case of the roundabout doing its job? There is less chance of a high-speed broadside collision here than at a "traditional" intersection. It may have saved someone's life.

this roundabout is totally useless, there IS NO CROSS STREET !!! it was planned for the anticipated USPS facility that never came to fruition TOTAL waste !!!!!

Totally agree with you Kate. Round abouts are dangerous.

Roundabouts are far safer than cross intersections, and intuitively obvious to navigate. I'd say drinking while driving is the likely cause of this accident, not the roundabout. I'm stunned to read the comments criticizing the road when a drunk driver could have killed someone. This is a great indicator of part of what is wrong with our society. No one is willing to take or assign personal responsibility. It must be the State's fault for designing a road that's hard for drunk people to drive on!
