Alleged Drunken Driver Flees Freeway Crash, Hits Vehicle on 27th Street

Police say a 32-year-old man going the wrong way on 27th Street struck a car at the intersection of 27th and Ryan, just minutes after fleeing an accident on the freeway.

A 32-year-old Fredonia man involved in a hit-and-run accident on the freeway Monday night proceeded to drive the wrong way on 27th Street and strike a car head-on, according to police.

Officers began searching for the vehicle about 10:10 p.m. after a report that he hit a car on Interstate 94 and exited the freeway at College Avenue, according to the Oak Creek Police Department logbook.Β 

At 10:19 p.m., police were informed that a driver going southbound in the northbound lanes on 27th Street struck a vehicle trying to make a left turn at the 27th and Ryan intersection.

Police determined the 32-year-old man was the driver in both incidents. He was arrested for drunken driving-causing injury and driving the wrong way on a divided highway.

He has not yet been charged, but was previously convicted of fleeing police in 2009, according to online court records.

A 5-year-old boy in the vehicle he hit on 27th Street complained of pain to his midsection, possibly from the seatbelt, according to the logbook. He was taken home after paramedics evaluated him at the scene.
