Bicyclist Cited in Car-Bike Accident

Driver told Oak Creek police he never saw bicyclist.

A bicyclist involved in an accident near 27th and Sycamore streets Sunday night received a citation for failure to yield.

According to an report:

The driver of the vehicle proceeded northbound through the intersection when his light turned green about 6:50 p.m. Suddenly, a bicyclist struck the front driver's side of his vehicle, flipped up onto the windshield and then went over the vehicle and landed on the ground behind it.

The driver, a 48-year-old Oak Creek man, later said he had no idea where the bicyclist came from. The bicyclist, a 23-year-old Oak Creek man, was taken to Froedtert Hospital complaining of severe pain to his right side.

In the hospital, he told police he went through the intersection without paying attention to his signal. He was cited for failure to yield at divided highway.

A doctor told police the man had non-life threatening injuries and would be released after x-rays.

The vehicle involved in the crash sustained severe damage to its front end.
