No One Injured in Bluff Collapse at We Energies' Oak Creek Power Plant

All We Energies employees and contractors were accounted for by mid-Monday afternoon after a bluff collapsed at the power company's Oak Creek plant. 

The bluff collapsed into Lake Michigan sometime in the 11 a.m. hour, the company said Monday. Tool and equipment storage trailers slid down the bluff during the collapse, We Energies said. 

WTMJ 4 had live-streaming video of the collapse taken from its helicopter. It showed large trailers displaced by the collapse, which extends into the lake. Four trailers appeared to be in the lake, and the roof of a building was on the shore.

Officials said that the integrity of the bluff is being studied and that stabilization will be needed. It's unknown how long that will take. 

A large banner on a building near the plant ironically says, "Make It Safe." 

The incident occurred on the south end of We Energies' Oak Creek property near its older generators. It built new generators in 2009 on the north end of its property. 

Power production at the utility's main plant, which is located in a separate building from where the collapse occurred, was uninterrupted by the incident, We Energies said. 

The U.S. Coast Guard and numerous other emergency units responded to the scene.

We Energies reported through its Twitter account that the collapse occured near a new air quality control system that is under construction.
