City 'Outraged By Senseless Act of Violence'

President Obama called Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi Sunday afternoon as reaction to Sikh shooting continues to pour in.

Reaction continues to pour out as Oak Creek deals with one of the darkest days of its history.

President Barack Obama called Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi Sunday afternoon to offer his condolences to the city following the mass shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin.

"His words were very comforting on a very difficult day," Scaffidi tweeted.

The city also released a statement earlier Sunday extending its sympathies to victims, families and friends.

"The city is outraged by this senseless act of violence that occurred in our community today," the statement said.

"We are grateful for the heroic actions of our emergency personnel and the first responders. As it has been reported, one of our police officers has been shot and wounded. Please join us in praying for his recovery."

Oak Creek is planning a vigil for Tuesday night. Vigils are also planned Sunday night in Madison and downtown Milwaukee.
