Updated: Couple Allegedly Used Heroin With Child In Back Seat

Suspect tells police she brought her boyfriend heroin when she picked him and a 2-year-old child up at the airport.

Updated 2:15 p.m. Wednesday: a previous version of this story incorrectly identified which of the suspects was returning from vacation. The story now reflects that correction.

A 23-year-old man and his girlfriend are facing charges after they allegedly shot up heroin in the airport parking structure and planned to drive home with a 2-year-old child in the back seat.

Mark A. Berzill and Ashley Mae Kollath, 23, of Jefferson, were charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Monday with one count of possession of narcotic drugs. If convicted, they each face up to 3 ½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On March 15, Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Mitchell Airport parking structure after someone spotted a man passed out in a car. Officers found him in the driver's seat with Kollath sitting next to him and the child in the back seat.

Kollath told deputies Berzill and the child just returned from vacation and she them up. She said she brought him heroin and they both planned to shoot up before driving away from the airport.

Police found syringes and other drug paraphernalia scattered around the car and Kollath gave them a bag of heroin she was hiding in her underwear.

Both are being held in county jail.
