Driver Arrested for OWI After Hitting Bicyclist

A 45-year-old man allegedly struck a bicyclist while under the influence in the 8100 block of S. 13th St. Tuesday afternoon.

A driver struck a bicyclist in the 8100 block of S. 13th St. Tuesday afternoon and was taken into custody for operating while intoxicated.

According to an report, a 45-year-old man made a left turn from W. Willow Drive onto southbound S. 13th Street, but did not see a 25-year-old man riding his bike southbound in the northbound lanes.

The bicyclist was awake and breathing when police arrived about 3:25 p.m., but was taken to Aurora St. Luke's South Shore to be evaluated.

Police found the driver to be intoxicated and arrested him for OWI-causing injury, according to the report. He was also cited for inattentive driving.

His vehicle sustained minor damage.
