Driver, Passenger Escape Vehicle Fire

A vehicle was totaled after catching fire at the Pilot Travel Center.

Police say two people got out of a vehicle at Pilot Travel Center, 2031 W. Ryan Road, just before it became engulfed in flames about 4 a.m. June 2.

The driver was southbound on Interstate 94 between Rawson and Drexel avenues when his coolant light came on, according to an Oak Creek police report.

He exited at Ryan Road and stopped at a gas pump at Pilot. As he came out of the store, he saw an ember fall from the undercarriage of his vehicle. Smoke starting coming from the engine hood, and the driver told his passenger to get out of the car, according to the police report.

By the time the Oak Creek police and fire departments arrived, the car's front end was engulfed in flames. The vehicle was totaled, with the front and interior completely damaged by fire. The car's value was estimated at $2,000.

The business did not suffer any damage, police said.
