Food Drive Part of This Year's National Night Out

Organizers are gearing up for this year's National Night Out, set for Aug. 6 at the community center.

When you come to Oak Creek's annual National Night Out Aug. 6, organizers are hoping you'll bring some food items with you.

A food drive benefitting Oak Creek food banks is part of this year's event, scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the community center, 8580 S. Howell Ave.

In particular, organizers are seeking infant food donations for the food pantry at St. Stephen's Family Life Center, event coordinator Kim Bogadi said. She said it's one of the only pantries in the Oak Creek area with a large focus on baby food.

Besides the food drive, National Night Out will feature some old stand-bys: emergency vehicles on display, low-cost food items, raffles and fireworks at the football field to end the night.

Attendees can also participate in a texting-and-driving activity, enter to win a ride on a hot air balloon, purchase an emergency kit and more.

National Night Out is designed to heighten awareness of crime prevention efforts and strengthen neighborhood spirit.
