Franklin Man Gets Five Years For Robbing Oak Creek Bank

Joseph Shartle, 37, agrees to plea deal after he robbed a bank to pay off his drug debts.

A heroin addict who lived in Franklin will spend the next five years in prison for robbing an Oak Creek bank, across the street from his trailer park, in order to pay off drug debts.

As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Joseph Shartle, 37, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of robbery of a financial institution. The first 30 months of the sentence will be served in a state prison while the second half of the sentence will be served in extended supervision.

Shartle could have spent 40 years in prison under the charge.

On Sept. 19, Shartle robbed the located inside , 6462 S. 27th St., by handing a teller a note asking for fifty $20 bills. He ended up getting $1,400 and walked out of the store.

He told officers he had been using heroin in his trailer across the street before driving his van to the bank and robbing it.
