Gun Drawn In Wild Drunken-Driving Incident

43-year-old arrested Monday afternoon in South Milwaukee.

It was an otherwise normal day for a 28-year-old Oak Creek man leaving Bender Park Monday until he came upon a purple Dodge Stratus unwilling to budge at a stop sign.

That's when it all completely turned.

The chain of events that transpired next included the 28-year-old drawing a gun, a short police chase in South Milwaukee and an arrest for drunken driving.

According to a police report:

The 28-year-old was leaving the park in the late afternoon hours. When the Stratus ahead of him didn't move at the stop sign, he honked his horn. When that did nothing, he tried driving around him.

As he passed the truck, he looked at the driver, a 43-year-old Cudahy man, and saw him yelling and screaming with a beer in his hand. The 43-year-old cut off the man when he tried to pass him, so the 28-year-old then called 911 to report a possible intoxicated driver.

The 28-year-old continued to follow the Dodge Stratus. At one point, the Stratus almost drove off the road, so the 28-year-old got out to see if he needed help. The Stratus driver then charged the man, who quickly got back into his vehicle. He told police that he felt his life was in danger at that point and believed other people could get hurt if the Stratus driver stayed on the roads.

The man also said that because he decided to keep following the Stratus, he felt he might be charged again, so he grabbed a handgun from a locked box in the rear of his vehicle.

Later, the Stratus again pulled over and the driver appeared to grab a bat or pipe and charged the 28-year-old.

The 28-year-old pointed his gun at the Stratus driver, who walked back to his truck and drove away and into South Milwaukee, where an SMPD officer started to follow him.

South Milwaukee police engaged in a short pursuit. The incident ended in a foot chase and with officers arresting the man for third-offense drunken driving, fleeing and eluding, and resisting. Oak Creek police cited him for disorderly conduct.
