Man Arrested For OWI After Accident

Two cars trying to beat a yellow light collided at 6th and Rawson, according to police. Police say one of the drivers was operating under the influence.

A 53-year-old Streamwood, Ill. man trying to beat a yellow light ended up in an accident at 6th Street and Rawson Avenue and was later arrested for drunken driving.

The man was westbound on Rawson when he tried to turn left onto 6th Street about 4:20 p.m. Friday. He collided with another car also trying to beat the yellow light, according to a police report.

Police arrived and noticed the man's speech was slurred, his eyes red and glassy and his breath smelling of alcohol, according to the report. As an officer spoke with him, the man swayed back and forth and leaned against his vehicle to keep his balance.

The man refused to take any sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence. He was also cited for failing to yield while making a left turn.

Police also cited the other driver for violating a yellow traffic signal.
