Man Charged With Fleeing Oak Creek Police

A 26-year-old man drove the wrong way on 27th Street and right toward an Oak Creek squad car, according to police.

An Appleton man driving the wrong way on 27th Street sped away from an officer and into a private condominium driveway, almost hitting a condo unit, according to police.

Kyle Johnson, 26, has been charged with a felony count of attempting to flee police and could face three years in prison and $10,000 in fines if convicted.

According to a criminal complaint, the officer saw Johnson make a left turn from Puetz Road onto S. 27th St. about 1:30 a.m. April 21. However, Johnson turned into the wrong lane and began driving southbound in the northbound lanes, right toward the officer's squad car.

When the officer activated his lights, Johnson made a U-turn and began going the correct direction, according to the complaint. But with the officer's lights still on, Johnson refused to pull over. He accelerated and turned back onto Puetz Road and then into a private driveway for a condominium complex, according to the complaint. 

Johnson keep accelerating until he came to a dead end. His vehicle then left the driveway, went onto the lawn and almost hit the side of a condo unit, police said.

Johnson stopped, opened the door and was immediately arrested.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 30.
