Milwaukee Man Charged in Car Break-Ins

District attorney's office considering additional charges against 27-year-old.

Charges have been issued against a Milwaukee man accused and more could be on the way.

Carlos J. Velazquez-Gonzalez, 27, was charged with three counts of criminal damage to property, three counts of theft, two counts of entry into locked vehicles and one count of obstructing police.

Each charge is a misdemeanor carrying a maximum sentence of nine months in prison and a $10,000 fine.

In addition, the district attorney’s office is reviewing an additional nine possible charges related to car break-ins the previous night at the same location.

According to a criminal complaint, Velazquez broke into eight vehicles near the College Court apartment complex, in the 6400 block of S. 20th St., in the early morning hours of June 3.

Velazquez ran from Oak Creek police officers, who found him hiding near a waste bin, and fought with them as they arrested him, according to the complaint.

Car batteries and paperwork with vehicle owners’ names on them were found near the trash bin, the complaint said. Several of the cars were damaged. 

Velazquez, who is still in Milwaukee County Jail, is due in court this morning for a bail hearing.
