Milwaukee Man Charged in High-Speed Chase

21-year-old sped away from an Oak Creek police officer on I-94 after borrowing his brother's car, according to a criminal complaint.

A 21-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged in connection with .

Edgar Joel Sabino-Lopez was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Thursday with one count of attempting to flee an officer. If convicted, he faces up to 3 ½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

At 8:21 a.m. June 23, an Oak Creek police officer on patrol spotted Sabino-Lopez squealing his tires and temporarily lose control of his vehicle near S. 13th Street and Drexel Avenue. The officer followed Sabino-Lopez until he got onto northbound I-94 at Rawson Avenue, where the cop tried to pull him over.

Sabino-Lopez was in the middle lane, slowed down and stopped for a short period before starting to drive again. He again slowed down and stopped in the middle lane, so the officer got on the right side of his car and told Sabino-Lopez to pull over.

However, he then accelerated quickly and drove off at roughly 100 miles per hour. The officer chased Sabino-Lopez for 1.6 miles, but stopped due to safety concerns.

The car was traced back to Sabino-Lopez’s brother, who said his brother borrowed the car.

Sabino-Lopez will make his initial appearance in court July 26.
