Milwaukee Teen Charged After Taking Car From Oak Creek Gas Station

Suspect stole a Michigan man's car after he went inside to pay for gas.

A Milwaukee teenager is facing charges after he allegedly took a Michigan man’s idling vehicle from an Oak Creek gas station and led police on a chase through South Milwaukee, Cudahy and Milwaukee.

Terry J. Gilbert, 17, was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Friday with one count of attempting to flee an officer. If convicted, he faces up to 3 ½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Oct. 4, the victim was filling up his car at , 1225 W. Rawson Ave., and then went into the station to pay. However, he left the car idling when he went into the station and when he returned, the car was gone.

He then contacted who were able to track the car, using GPS technology, moving through South Milwaukee and into Cudahy.

A Cudahy police officer caught up to Gilbert and tried to pull him over as he entered northbound I-794; however, Gilbert then sped up in an attempt to flee.

Police chased Gilbert to E. Bolivar Ave., where he was stopped by traffic and was boxed in by a squad car.

Gilbert was assigned a $1,000 signature bond and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Oct. 24.
