Mom Arrested For Driving Impaired After Hit-and-Run

The mom of an Oak Creek High School student allegedly ran a red light and hit a vehicle at Drexel and Howell, then left the scene.

A mother of an Oak Creek High School student told police she left the scene of accident so her son would not be late for school, and was arrested in the school parking lot for driving impaired.

According to an Oak Creek police report:

The woman ran a red light and hit a vehicle at the intersection of Drexel and Howell avenues about 7:30 a.m. May 30.

After stopping to pick up debris from her vehicle, the woman continued southbound on Howell Avenue and to the Oak Creek High School parking lot to drop her son off.

The driver of the vehicle she hit called police and followed her there. Police questioned her in the parking lot and noted slurred speech and glassy eyes, but did not detect any odor of alcohol. Police later found prescription Oxycodone pills in her purse.

After she failed field sobriety tests, she was taken into custody for driving while impaired. Police took her to Wheaton Hospital for a blood draw, and then to the county jail.

Officers also cited the woman for running a red light, hit-and-run causing injury and driving without proof of insurance.

The other driver in the accident was injured but declined an ambulance.

Both vehicles sustained minor damage.
