The Oak Creek Fire Department extricated Andzans from the vehicle and initially called for Flight for Life, but it was called off as Andzans had died at the scene. He suffered massive wounds, including severe head injuries.

A 58-year-old man driving the rear-most semi was also trapped in his vehicle. He was extricated and taken to Froedtert Hospital with cuts and bruises. Another driver, a 50-year-old man, was taken to Froedtert for shortness of breath. Both were treated and released.

The sheriff's office has still not made a final determination about the cause of the crash or issued citations. Officers are still interviewing truck drivers and witnesses, reconstructing the crash scene and analyzing equipment factors, measurements and data.

An initial investigation shows that alcohol does not appear to play a factor.
