Child Prostitution Crackdown Reaches Oak Creek

Sixty-three people were arrested in the Milwaukee area last week as law enforcement officers stepped up efforts to stop the sexual exploitation of children.

The FBI has announced that 63 people were arrested in the Milwaukee area last week as part an operation to crack down on child sex trafficking.

The was involved in the operation, though the number of arrests in Oak Creek wasn't immediately available.

The local law enforcement efforts were part of Operation Cross Country, a nationwide initiative targeting those responsible for sexual exploitation of children and human trafficking. Across the country, more than 100 people were arrested and 80 children recovered.

"Protecting the children of our communities and combating human trafficking by bringing to justice the criminals who exploit these victims is an extremely important mission," said Teresa L. Carlson, special agent in charge of the FBI's Milwaukee division, in a news release.

Milwaukee-area law enforcement recovered seven children over the course of the June 21-22 operation, according to a news release. Fifty-three adult prostitutes and three pimps were also arrested.
