Oak Creek Man Allegedly Punches Employee Who Catches Him Shoplifting

Suspect allegedly stole from a Milwaukee CVS and punched an employee, but was detained by another customer.

A 45-year-old Oak Creek man is facing charges after he allegedly beat an employee inside a Milwaukee pharmacy after the employee caught him shoplifting from the store.

Emmanual Bivens was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of retail theft and one count of battery. If convicted, he faces up to 18 months in prison and $20,000 in fines.

At 7:40 p.m. Friday, Bivens walked into a CVS on Milwaukee's east side and gave a long, suspicious look toward an employee before walking down an aisle.

The employee checked on Bivens and found him standing in the hair care aisle holding a backpack. Bivens immediately began moving once he saw the employee.

The employee then asked several times to see what was in the backpack, but Bivens refused. The employee grabbed the backpack, so Bivens punched him several times in the face. Another customer jumped in and put Bivens in a "full nelson" to detain him until officers arrived.

Inside the backpack, the employee found a hair dryer and hair curler that Bivens was trying to take from the store.

Bivens will make his initial court appearance Thursday.
