Oak Creek Man Charged With 5th OWI

Man allegedly ran red light at S. 27th Street and W. Ryan Road.

An Oak Creek man is facing felony drunken driving charges after police say he went through a red light Sunday on 27th Street.

Steven J. Lambert, 41, was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Monday with one count of fifth-offense operating while intoxicated. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

An Oak Creek police officer on patrol saw Lambert turn right from W. Ryan Road onto northbound S. 27th Street Sunday without stopping for a red light. He was pulled over shortly thereafter.

While talking to Lambert, the officer smelled alcohol and he told the officer he had three or four beers before driving. Lambert was arrested for drunken driving and taken to a hospital for a blood test.

Lambert was previously convicted of OWI in 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2003. He's being held in Milwaukee County Jail on $1,500 bail while awaiting trial.

How many times do we have to read this? How many chances do these people get? Do we wait until some innocent person has to die because of these drunk drivers? You would think they would learn from the very first time they were convicted of drunk driving! I say NO second chances...Throw the book at them on the second offense!
