Man Threw Propane Can Through Glass Door, Choked Woman: Police

Police say a 36-year-old Oak Creek man threw a propane can through a glass door and strangled a woman, after he stepped outside for a cigarette and she locked the door behind him.

An Oak Creek man is accused of throwing a propane can through a glass door and strangling a woman, after he stepped outside for a cigarette and she locked the door behind him. 

Cory Prokop, 36, was charged June 8 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with misdemeanor counts of battery, criminal damage to property and violating a domestic abuse injection.

On June 8, the victim was with Prokop at an Oak Creek apartment when he stepped out onto a porch to have a cigarette. 

The victim locked a glass door out to the porch behind him. Prokop then threw a propane can through the glass door to get back into the apartment. The victim told Prokop to leave and she went to a bathroom, locking the door. Prokop broke the bathroom door and began to strangle the victim, the court documents says.

There was an order against Prokop to refrain from committing acts or threats of domestic abuse against the victim, according to the criminal complaint. 

If convicted, Prokop could face up to two years and three months imprisonment, $21,000 in fines, or both. 

Prokop's is scheduled to appear in court on July 11.
