Oak Creek Papa John's Employees Fall Victim to Late-Night Scam

Man claiming to be from company's corporate office swindled $1,300 from unsuspecting workers.

Employees working the late shift at Tuesday night got scammed out of money by someone purporting to be from the company's corporate office.

According to a police report:

A man called the restaurant, 8645 S. Howell Ave., late Tuesday night claiming to work for the company. He said employees needed to come to the area near 25th Street and Wisconsin Avenue in Milwaukee with $1,300 to settle a customer complaint.

The two employees said they didn't have that much money in the store, so they went into their personal bank accounts to get an additional $400.

An employee then drove to 25th and Wisconsin and turned over a blue bank bag, containing the money, to a man sitting in the parking lot of a McDonald's.

The employees then spoke to the store's general manager, who told them it was a scam and to call police.

Officers said this isn't the first time someone has pulled this scam. It has happened in many different cities, and a similar complaint was reported in Oak Creek at Taco Bell.
