Oak Creek Playing Host to Church Security Seminar

Seminar on emergency readiness will be held two miles from the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin.

Just two miles from the site of the 2012 mass shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, faith leaders from around the area will gather for a free seminar on church security.

Set for Sept. 10 at the Oak Creek Assembly of God, national church security expert Carl Chinn and others will address emergency readiness for ministries.

Fliers have been distributed to churches throughout Milwaukee and Waukesha counties, said Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards, whose department is helping organize the seminar.

The debate over church security was renewed following the Sikh temple shooting, as well as legislation passed in Arkansas, North Dakota and Illinois allowing concealed-carry in churches.

Chinn, who has written a book on the subject, will advise attendees to arm designated church-goers during services, according to the Huffington Post

"I do believe if an active shooter comes in -- and I've earned the right to have this opinion -- I do believe there is nothing like a firearm that can stop another firearm," he told HuffPost. "I advise them that it's a good thing to do with trained responders, not just good guys with guns, but people who have some level of training."
