Oak Creek Plays Support Role In Burlington Fire

As of Thursday morning, crews were still battling a massive fire at a Burlington food processing plant that has caused the evacuation of 10 homes.

Oak Creek played a support role in battling a massive, eight-alarm fire in Burlington that started Wednesday night and took firefighters more than 12 hours to contain.

Battalion Chief Joe Pulvermacher said a task force with units from around Milwaukee County staged Wednesday night at Oak Creek Fire Department headquarters, 7000 S. 6th St., before heading off to Burlington. No fire trucks from Oak Creek were sent to the scene, Pulvermacher said.

Firefighters from more than 80 departments in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois were called in to help fight the blaze at the Echo Lake Foods processing plant, according to an Associated Press report.

The fire, which began about 6 p.m. Wednesday, forced the evacuation of ten homes and one apartment building. No one was injured.
