OWI Arrest Made After Crash at Puetz/Howell

A 29-year-old man drove over a median twice and hit a street sign early Thursday morning, according to police.

Police say a 29-year-old Oak Creek man was drunk when he drove back and forth over a median and struck a street sign early Thursday morning near Puetz and Howell.

According to an Oak Creek police report:

The man was southbound on Howell Avenue about 12:30 a.m. when he swerved left, went over the median and hit a street sign.

He continued traveling southbound in the northbound lanes before swerving back over the median and into the southbound lanes. His vehicle finally came to rest on the shoulder in the 8600 block of S. Howell Ave.

After an officer determined he was the driver, he was arrested for operating after revocation and taken to the Oak Creek Police Department. There, he refused to take field sobriety tests, a blood draw or a breath test.

An officer arrested him for his third drunken driving offense anyway, with the man already admitting to drinking, unable to keep his balance and alcohol coming from his breath.

His vehicle, which sustained moderate damage to the front driver's side, was towed from the scene.
