Parked SUV Struck in Bar Parking Lot, Driver Arrested

Police caught the driver after a man smoking a cigarette outside of Pudgy's saw the driver hit his girlfriend's SUV with his station wagon.

A 58-year-old Racine man is accused of ramming his station wagon into an SUV parked at a Mount Pleasant bar while trying to drive away drunk.

John Allyn was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Friday with his fifth offense of drunken driving, one count of resisting an officer and one count of disorderly conduct. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison and $21,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, Allyn came into Pudgy's Pub, 7800 Washington Ave., on Thursday, and ordered a beer. He drank half of the beer, then began threatening to kill other patrons and told another person he had a warrant out for his arrest.

Allyn then left the bar, the complaint stated, got into his station wagon and partially backed out from a parking stall, then drove into an SUV, which was owned by a woman inside the bar. The woman's boyfriend was outside smoking a cigarette at the time of the accident, so he went over, forcibly got the keys from Allyn and parked the station wagon back into its stall.

Allyn went back inside the bar and the woman called the Mount Pleasant Police Department. When officers arrived, Allyn was at the far end of the bar with glassy bloodshot eyes and extremely slurred speech. Officers asked Allyn if he had been driving and he replied that he hadn't been driving on any roadways.

They asked again and the complaint states he admitted to the accident. He then went outside with police officers and they asked him to take field sobriety tests. He was first compliant with the request, but then began asking officers to give him a break and to call his attorney Robert Shapiro in California.

Allyn then refused to follow instructions for the tests, so officers told him he was under arrest for drunk driving. He then tried to walk away, according to the complaint, so officers grabbed his arms. He continued to resist as officers tried to search him, struggling and shouting racial slurs at the officers. Allyn was taken to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital for a blood test, where he again refused and told an officer he would run him over with his vehicle. Blood was eventually taken forcefully from Allyn. Allyn was previously convicted of OWI in 1990, 1991, 1992 and 2003. He's currently being held in Racine County Jail on $5,000 bond while awaiting trial.

Uhm.....I think this guy needs to put away! Maybe 5 years of "sober" thinking will help this man change his ways. But, in the world we live in today, he'll get a slap on the wrist, small amount of jail time, out early for "good behavior," ready to explode & real horror on the public at large! Nothing to see here, move on.

Isn't it wonderful that a slap is all he'll probably get!?!? Why is it that is is happening more and more? I could almost understand leniency after a 1st offense but 2 or more is totally inexcusable! What is wrong with out law-makers? We need stiffer penalties!

we need harsher penalties. My daughter was killed December 2011 these are not accidents. People make a choice to drink and a choice to drive .
