Police: Driver Blacked Out Before Crash

A 64-year-old woman was northbound on Howell Avenue before leaving the roadway and hitting a mailbox, fire hydrant and trees Monday morning. She told police she did not recall the accident.

A 64-year-old woman told Oak Creek police she blacked out before driving off Howell Avenue and crashing Monday morning.

The woman was northbound in the 8000 block of S. Howell Ave. when she passed out about 10:45 a.m. Monday, according to a police report.

Her vehicle hit a mailbox, a fire hydrant and multiple small- and medium-sized trees before coming to a rest in a marshy area nearly 100 yards off the roadway, according to the report.

She was awake when police arrived and told officers she did not recall the accident. Paramedics transported her to Aurora St. Luke's South Shore Hospital for treatment and evaluation.

Police cited her for failure to maintain control of vehicle.
