Oak Creek Police Investigating Rash of Car Break-Ins

A 27-year-old man was in Milwaukee County Jail Friday afternoon after a rash of car break-ins at an apartment complex near 20th Street and College Avenue.

Oak Creek police arrested the man, from Milwaukee, early Friday after a foot pursuit, according to a police report.

Police allege he entered or attempted to enter at least nine vehicles near the College Court apartment complex, in the 6400 block of S. 20th St. He was arrested for three counts of theft, three counts of criminal damage to property, two counts of entering locked vehicles and one count of resisting arrest.

It appeared as if the man was especially interested in car batteries, as he took or tried to take batteries from several of the vehicles, according to police reports. At least one vehicle had its window smashed out. 

He was caught after a resident in the neighborhood saw him entering cars and phoned police about 1 a.m.

In addition, the Police Department logbook indicates the man was arrested the previous night, cited for entering two vehicles in the same area, and released. The Milwaukee Police Department is also investigating the suspect for car break-ins, according to an Oak Creek police report. 

Police Chief John Edwards could not be reached for comment Friday.

The man has not yet been charged.
