Police Make Drug Bust at Oak Creek Hotel

Officers found nearly 300 grams of marijuana in a room at Days Inn.

A police canine sniffed out a large amount of marijuana in a Oak Creek hotel room, leading to a felony charge for an Ohio man.

Police found 286 grams of marijuana in a Days Inn hotel room occupied by Austin Covault, 19, according to a criminal complaint. He has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint:

An officer detected the smell of marijuana inside the hotel about 7:55 p.m. Aug. 9, but could not pinpoint the room from which it came.

After a police canine indicated on Covault's room, the 19-year-old opened the door, only to slam it on the officer's hand.

That led to a struggle between the officer and Covault in the hallway, before another officer arrived and helped detain Covault.

A search of the hotel room turned up two large bags of marijuana and handwritten notes that appeared to be a drug ledger.

According to online court records, a bench warrant was issued for Covault after he failed to show for a Sept. 4 court appearance.
