Police Will Occupy Dunkin' Donuts Rooftop For Charity

June 22 event aims to raise awareness for Special Olympics Wisconsin and the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Local and state police officers will stake out Dunkin' Donuts rooftops on June 22 -- but all for a good cause.

Beginning at 6 a.m., police officers will cover the Dunkin' Donuts rooftop at Oak Creek, 2345 W. Ryan Road, and 14 other locations to "heighten" awareness and raise money for Special Olympics Wisconsin, according to a news release.

Specifically, the event benefits the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which has raised more than $19 million for Special Olympics Wisconsin over the past 25 years.

"The tradition of police officers and donuts goes way back as kind of a joke," said Ray Merlin, Wisconsin Torch Run director and Kenosha County deputy sheriff, in a news release. "What better way to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Wisconsin."

Dunkin' Donuts is donating $5,000 to the Torch Run Fund. In addition, any customer who visits a cop on a rooftop and makes a donation to the Torch Run gets a free medium hot or iced coffee coupon.
