The customer reported the cards missing after she left her purse behind at the restaurant.

A 31-year-old Quizno’s employee is charged with identity theft, after police say she stole credit cards out of a customer's purse, then used them to purchase goods in Oak Creek.

Tabitha R. Sandberg, of Racine, was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Saturday with one count of unauthorized use of personal identification. If convicted, she faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

At 12:30 p.m. Sept. 16, a couple ate at Quizno’s, and after they left, the woman realized she had left her purse behind. She called the store and staff said they still had the purse and would hold it until they arrived.

When the couple returned, an employee told them the purse was gone and it must have been taken by a delivery driver. However, while talking, the man saw Sandberg outside digging through a bush, then leaving with a purse.

The couple contacted Oak Creek police and an officer interviewed the employee, who said Sandberg emptied the purse of its contents and took it from the store. The woman eventually got the purse back, but noticed some cash and credit cards were missing.

Sandberg told officers she took the credit cards from the purse and used them to buy goods at Pick ‘n Save, Kohl’s and Target. About $291 had been charged to the cards.

Sandberg will make her initial appearance in court Oct. 25.
