Racine Police Friday afternoon apprehended two men suspected of holding up a south side gas station the same morning.

According to a story running in The Journal Times, two armed men walked into the Fine Fare Foods store, 1819 Durand Avenue, at about 10 a.m. One of them had a gun, witnesses said, and they both wore sunglasses and ski masks.

“I heard them say get down and that is exactly what I did,” a woman is quoted as saying. “I got down and I didn’t look up. I was too scared.”

The owner of the store was unsure how much money the men got away with.

By 12:15 p.m., Racine Uncovered reported that officers took Darnell Davidson, 40, and Bruce Ratliff, 57, into custody after a chase that reached 60 miles per hour and ended near Hamilton and Geneva.

One suspect was caught in a home in the 1200 block of Marquette. The other surrendered in the 1200 block of Geneva. One of the men was transported to Wheaton Franciscan for treatment from an asthma attack.

Police reportedly asked for a gun box and picked up various sums of money from several areas.

This remains an open and ongoing investigation.

If anyone has information about this incident, they are encouraged to call the Racine Police Department at (262) 635-7700 or to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
