One person was killed after a van and cement truck collided on 27th Street just north of Rawson Avenue.

The accident happened just after 10 a.m. Thursday at the driveway of Menard's. Police were blocking northbound 27th Street at Rawson, although southbound lanes remained open.

Initial police scanner reports indicated that extrication was needed and that an off-duty Milwaukee firefighter was working to revive a person.

The Wisconsin State Patrol has been brought in for an accident reconstruction.

A lot of people don't seem to know how to pull out into traffic there. I can't count how many times I was heading north on 27th and the drivers making that left turn never even look south, just north at the south southbound traffic. Then I have to slam the brakes and hit the horn.
