Sheriff's Dept. Investigating Theft of $20k From Airport Business

A United States-hating employee of a business in Mitchell International Airport is suspected of stealing the money and fleeing to Turkey.

Authorities are investigating an incident in which a foreigner with a deep-seated hatred of the United States working at Mitchell International Airport allegedly stole more than $20,000 from a safe there.

According to search warrant documents filed in Milwaukee County Circuit Courts, Milwaukee County sheriff's deputies were called to the airport on Dec. 8 after an employee of HMS Host reported someone broke into safes and made off with $20,235 in cash. A red wire cutter was left behind at the scene and a fingerprint found on it was traced back to an employee.

The employee was interviewed by deputies about the incident and was unable to provide adequate information on his whereabouts at the time of the burglary, despite two US Airways employees reportedly seeing him about the time the incident took place.

The man drove someone else's car to work that day. The vehicle was later found in the 3800 block of N. 1st Street with an empty bank bag inside.

Deputies learned during the course of the investigation the suspect had a strong hatred of the United States and only got money here so he could start a business overseas. Since the burglary took place, the suspect left for Turkey.
