Sheriff's Squad Struck on Ryan Road Off Ramp

No one was injured in an accident in the rainy weather early Sunday morning.

The rainy weather Saturday night was a factor in a crash involving a Milwaukee County sheriff's squad car on the Ryan Road off ramp.

According to an Oak Creek police report, the squad was blocking the southbound Ryan Road off ramp when it was struck by a vehicle exiting the freeway about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old Racine woman, told police she could not tell the off ramp was closed due to the wet conditions. By the time she realized it, she couldn't stop in time and struck the rear of the squad car.

The woman's airbag deployed but she was uninjured. Her car sustained severe damage, while the squad car had moderate damage. Both cars were towed.

The squad car had its emergency lights on and was unoccupied, police said. The deputy was helping a person who drove into the ditch about a half hour earlier, according to police.

Police cited the 18-year-old for driving too fast for conditions.
