Sheriff's Office Investigating Monday Morning Crash

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is investigating an accident on Howell Avenue early this morning for possible OWI charges.

According to an Oak Creek police report, the police and fire departments were called to the 6700 block of S. Howell Ave. about 3:45 a.m. for a car that struck a pole.

The driver was slumped over the steering wheel, according to the report.  Smoke was coming out of the vehicle; flames were not seen.

The vehicle was leaking gas and was towed from the scene. We Energies was called for the pole, which did not appear damaged but was leaning, the report said.

Oak Creek police turned over the scene to the sheriff's office, which is investigating whether the driver was operating while intoxicated.
