Snow-Covered Signs Cause Traffic Problems; One Person Hospitalized

Many south-bound signs and traffic signals were covered after Friday night's snowfall.

One person was sent to the hospital Saturday morning after a snow-covered red light led to a two-car accident.

According to police reports:

The accident happened at the intersection of Chicago and Puetz about 10:15 a.m. Saturday. The driver told police it difficult to see the light because it was covered by snow. By the time he noticed the light was red, it was too late.

Snow-covered signs were a problem throughout the city on Saturday thanks to Friday night's snowfall.

Police dispatchers said they received many reports of south-bound traffic lights covered. The Oak Creek Police Department notified the Sheriff's Department that all lights along Howell Avenue should be scraped.

Road conditions were also slick. A minor accident was reported on the Rawson Avenue overpass, and a two-car accident occurred near Howell and Oak. Both were on account of icy conditions.

A hill near Long Meadow Drive and Drexel Avenue was closed after cars went down the hill and were unable to stop.
