Theft at Menards Leads To Chase, Arrest

52-year-old ran from store security but was tracked down by Oak Creek police.

A 52-year-old Milwaukee man who struggled with and broke free from Menards security was apprehended by Oak Creek police about five blocks away Sunday.

According to a police report:

The man allegedly stole $566 worth of merchandise from , 6800 S. 27th St., shortly after 11 a.m. He fought with store security and eventually got away, running northbound on 27th Street.

An Oak Creek police officer was flagged down by people who saw the man run into Walmart, on the Franklin side of 27th Street. The Franklin Police Department then dispatched officers. While in Walmart, the man allegedly stole a Budweiser T-shirt.

Later, the man was spotted near 26th and Sycamore. Oak Creek police finally found him near Tri City True Value, 6312 S. 27th St., wearing the Budweiser T-shirt with the tags still on.

Officers searched his leather satchel, in which he put the stolen items from Menards, and found a crack pipe.Β 

He was arrested for retail theft, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.Β
