Trains Briefly Halted After Car Accident

Driver struck pole Friday on E. Oakwood Road.

A car accident by the railroad tracks briefly shut down train traffic Friday afternoon.

A 19-year-old Caledonia man was westbound in the 1800 block of E. Oakwood Road when his vehicle hit a bump and went into the ditch, according to a police report. The vehicle kept going in the ditch until it struck a pole.

The pole, owned by Union Pacific Railroad, was snapped in half, police said. The vehicle sustained severe damage on its front end.

Union Pacific shut down railroad traffic about 3:45 p.m., according to the police report. The driver, who was not injured, was cited for driving with a suspended license.
