Gun Photo on Phone Leads to Charges

A Milwaukee man and woman are facing felony charges after Oak Creek police officers found marijuana and a gun inside an Oak Creek hotel room.

A photo of a convicted felon holding a gun in an Oak Creek hotel room led to charges for a Milwaukee man and woman.

Shelly Ann Iverson, 36, was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Saturday with possession of a firearm by a felon. If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison and $25,000 in fines.

Police also searched a man who was in the room with her and found a bag of marijuana in his pocket. Cornelius Terrell Sims, 30, was charged with possession of marijuana and faces up to 3 Β½ years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On July 17, an Oak Creek police officer was at the , 6360 S. 13th St., when he found Sims and Iverson, who had an arrest warrant pending against her.

Officers found a 9mm handgun in a shoebox and patted down Sims and found a bag of marijuana in his pocket.

Officers searched Sims' phone and found pictures of Iverson holding the gun inside the hotel room. Iverson initially denied holding the gun until she was confronted with the photos. She said they were taken in the days leading up to the arrest.

Sims is currently being held in Milwaukee County Jail on $350 bond while Iverson is being held on $2,500 bail.
