Vehicle Crashes Into Mobile Home; Driver Arrested

A 42-year-old man was arrested for operating under the influence after the vehicle he was driving struck a mobile home early Friday morning.

According to an report, officers found a black SUV partially wedged underneath a mobile-home unit in the 2400 block of W. Carroll Ave. (the Hy-View Mobile Home Park) just after 3 a.m. Friday.

The driver, a 42-year-old man who lives nearby, told police he was southbound on 24th Street and missed the turn onto Carroll Ave. He struck the residence, moving it about three feet from its original location.

Police officers noticed a strong smell of natural gas and called the , which turned off the gas line to the residence and also helped stabilize the home.

No one was injured; the resident of the home was out of town at the time.

The driver was very apologetic for hitting the home and upset because he could not remove the vehicle, which belonged to his friend, according to the police report.

Police arrested him for operating under the influence, with a preliminary blood-alcohol content of .14, according to the report.

The vehicle sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene.
