Chamber Renames Scholarship In Honor Of Bolender

The South Suburban Chamber of Commerce has renamed one of its scholarships after the late Oak Creek Mayor Dick Bolender.

The South Suburban Chamber Richard R. Bolender Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to an graduating senior who plans to major in business.

The chamber's board of directors renamed the scholarship in recognition of Bolender's contributions to the present, but especially the future, of Oak Creek, Chamber Executive Director Barbara Wesener said.

"It seems only fitting that this annual scholarship, which helps to support the future business leaders of Oak Creek, be named in honor of Dick Bolender, who dedicated his public career to the future of Oak Creek, who loved the city and worked so hard for it," Wesener said.

The Bolender family has also established a scholarship in the late mayor's name.

Bolender , just a few days after announcing he would not seek another term as mayor.
