City Still Searching For Streets, Parks Director

Oak Creek has struggled to find a qualified candidate to oversee its streets, parks and forestry department.

Oak Creek continues to operate without a street superintendent, six months after the retirement of Mike Lampe

The reason? The city is struggling to find a qualified person to fill the position, which is now called the director of streets, parks and forestry.

The Oak Creek Common Council earlier this week approved hiring Voorhees Associates, at a cost of up to $15,900, to recruit candidates. The city is using the savings of not having a director, which are $7,490 per month, to pay for the service.

City Administrator Gerald Peterson said the difficulty has been finding people with management experience. The director will supervise about 35 people.

Dave Laehn has filled the position on an interim basis while the city searches for a permanent replacement. The position should be filled by early next year, Peterson said.
