Committee Recommends Lake Parkway Extension

An advisory committee on Monday made its recommendations to the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission.

As expected, a committee studying an extension of the Lake Parkway to Highway 100 in Oak Creek recommended the project be added to a long-range transportation plan for southeastern Wisconsin.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has more on the committee's recommendations, including at least one item that may interest Oak Creek Patch readers - that the speed limit be raised above the 40 mph currently in place for the parkway.

In a news release, County Supervisor and committee chairwoman Pat Jursik said the committee unanimously recommended the proposed extension.

"I thank my colleagues on the committee for embracing this concept. My vision for the Lake Parkway goes even further, hopefully connecting the Hoan Bridge to the Illinois state line," she said. "Lake Michigan is the geographic definer of this corridor, which stretches from Gary, Indiana, to Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, spanning three states and 16 urbanized counties. As this corridor develops, transportation infrastructure must keep pace.

"My office will begin preparing a resolution for the county to adopt an amendment to the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan developed by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission. This amendment is a necessary step to get (the Wisconsin Department of Transportation) to begin engineering for Lake Parkway extension."
