Common Council Meeting Postponed To Tuesday

Officials say agenda wasn't posted in accordance with open meetings law.

The Oak Creek Common Council meeting scheduled for tonight has been pushed to Tuesday to meet the state's open meetings requirements.

An agenda for the meeting, originally scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, was posted at 6:30 p.m. Friday. But because the meeting was scheduled for Monday -- and not its customary Tuesday time -- the public did not have 24 hours to view the agenda with closed over the weekend, Acting City Clerk Christa Miller said. The agenda was also not posted on the city's website.

Wisconsin open meetings law dictates that government meetings be posted at least 24 hours in advance. Miller said the city chose to err on the side of caution in moving the meeting back a day.

Council meetings are normally held the first and third Tuesday of each month. This week's was scheduled for Monday due to the election Tuesday, but that is now all for naught, as the meeting will start at 6 p.m. on Election Night.
