County Board Presses To Approve Labor Contract

Meeting to be held Thursday with uncertainty abounding in Madison.

The Milwaukee County Board will hold a special meeting Thursday to possibly renew the contract of the county's largest labor union, .

The board met Friday to discuss taking up the contract of District Council 48 in an effort to keep collective-bargainning in place for those employees. Now it will apparently meet again and attempt to get around the state's pending law, which takes away most bargaining rights for most public unions.

With the state Supreme Court expected to rule today on an earlier court decision striking down the law, and legislators set to begin debate on the state budget, the special meeting on Thursday has "high stakes," County Supervisor Mark Borkowski told Greenfield Patch.
