County Committee Backs Lake Parkway Extension

The proposal to extend Lake Parkway to Highway 100 in Oak Creek took another step forward Wednesday morning.

A Milwaukee County committee Wednesday morning passed a resolution supporting a proposed extension of the Lake Parkway through Oak Creek.

The resolution calls for the extension to be added to the long-range regional transportation plan, which is a "key step in making this project eligible for federal funds," said County Supervisor Pat Jursik, who is spearheading the proposal.

"Oak Creek and the entire South Shore are providing much of the county's economic growth, and extending the Lake Parkway will help us keep that momentum going," Jursik said in a news release.

Under a preliminary plan, the Lake Parkway would be extended to Highway 100 in Oak Creek. Final approval and construction are still a long ways off, but so far and have largely favored the idea.

Oak Creek's new county supervisor, Steve Taylor, added his name to the resolution as a co-sponsor.

"My constituents overwhelmingly support extending this key transportation corridor further south into Oak Creek," Taylor said in the news release. "I am pleased to co-sponsor Supervisor Jursik's resolution for the economic benefit of southern Milwaukee County."
